IPPIS: ASUU threatens indefinite action after warning strike

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities has  threatened to go on an  indefinite strike if  the Federal Government  continues to insist   that   lecturers must enrol  for  the  Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.  The union also wants the FG to honour  its   agreements with them. ASUU Coordinator,  Lagos Zone, Prof. Olusiji Sowande,   said this   while addressing  reporters  at the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun,  Ogun State, on Tuesday. He  said they might opt for  a complete strike after the two-week warning strike to press the FG to yield to their demands. Sowande said   the warning strike was to call the attention of  the government to the outstanding issues in  the 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, MoU/MoAs of 2013, 2017 and 2019. The  union chief  called on Nigerians to show understanding and join forces with them in the struggle for  the  survival of  public universities. He  condemned   the $140m loan allegedly obtained by the FG for the imp

The federal government has issued a ban on entry into Nigeria on the United States of America, the United Kingdom and eleven other countries. Announcing the ban on entry to journalists in his office on Wednesday, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha, also said those who arrived into the country in the last 15 days from the 13 countries, would be subjected to supervised 14 days self-isolation. Mustapha, who was accompanied by the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehinare, explained that the ban on the 13 countries became necessary because of their high-risk status in terms of the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He said the ban on the 13 countries would take effect from Saturday, March 21, 2020, adding that the Visa-on-Arrival policy had been temporarily suspended. He also advised all Nigerians with foreign travel plans to the banned countries to either cancel or suspend such plans. “This morning, we have found it necessary to

EU leaders have agreed to prevent foreigners from entering the European bloc for 30 days as they fight to contain the deadly coronavirus. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said the proposal “got a lot of support by the member states. It’s up to them now to implement. They said they will immediately do that.” At a press briefing on Tuesday night, Hans Henri P. Kluge, the World Health Organizations regional director for Europe, said that 152 countries were now affected by COVID-19, creating a “new reality” for millions of people across the world. “Europe is the epicentre of the first pandemic of coronavirus and every country, with no exceptions, need to take their boldest actions to stop or slow down the virus spread. Boldest action should include community action. Thinking that “this does not concern me” is not an option,” he said. Italy now has nearly a third of the world’s deaths from coronavirus as Rome announced 345 more fatalities on Tuesday, taking the

Klopp Wrong To Question Athletico Madrid’s Style Of Play

I must admit it’s hard to dislike Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, even as an fan Arsenal. I liked his team’s style of play during his time managing Dortmund. However, my admiration for the German is slowly ebbing away. Liverpool exited the Champions League at the last-16 stage last Wednesday night. The Reds suffered a 4-2 aggregate defeat after extra-time against Spanish team Atletico Madrid. Speaking after the game, his reaction to the defeat was less than gracious. Sky Sports quotes Klopp as saying “I don’t understand with the quality they have the football they play. They could play proper football but they stand deep and have counter-attacks. “I realise I am a really bad loser, especially when the boys put such an effort in against world-class players on the other side who defend with two rows of four. It doesn’t feel right tonight, to be honest.” At least he knows how he came across after the interview. He was annoyed and frustrated by the defeat. However, what did he exp

End of Days: Predictions and Prophecies about the End of the World, written by Sylvia Browne predicted the global outbreak of coronavirus Remember we told you about a novel that predicted the coronavirus outbreak 40 years ago? It was a thriller,  The Eyes of Darkness, written by Dean Koontz . Looks like it is not the only piece of fiction that predicted the coronavirus outbreak. A book titled End of Days: Predictions and Prophecies about the End of the World, written by Sylvia Browne, also predicted the global outbreak of coronavirus. The book was first published in 2008. A photo of an excerpt from the book is going viral across social media platforms and is spooky enough to reach for that box of tissues to wipe your sweat "In around 2020 a severe pneumonia-like illness will spread throughout the globe, attacking the lungs and bronchial tubes resisting all known treatments," the excerpt read. Doesn't it sound very similar to this novel coronavirus and the
