Ijaw group rejects remapping of Akwa Ibom, says it’s ‘ploy to regroup oil communities’

  The Ijaw National Congress (INC) has kicked against efforts to redraw the map of  Akwa Ibom  state.  According to NAN, the group said the aim of the remapping was to realign communities into oil-producing Ijaw communities. The state government has been speaking on the plan to redraw the map of the state. The house of assembly recently passed the Akwa Ibom state map establishment law 2023 which was commended by traditional rulers and others who hailed Udom Emmanuel, the state governor for the vision.  They said the law would make for easy identification of boundaries and reduce communal conflicts. However, Benjamin Okaba, president of INC, who described the move as an “internal colonisation” said the  Ijaw  would resist the remapping efforts.   The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has confirmed plans to evacuate over 2,000 Nigerians in crisis-hit Sudan this morning. This came on a day management of Air Peace expressed its willingness to evacuate Nigerians stranded in the Horn of Africa country free of charge. This is even as Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, NIDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, also yesterday encouraged Nigerian students in the war-torn country to remain in their universities to avert danger. The statement read in part, “We have watched with increasing alarm and despair the unfolding tragedy in Sudan as a result of the ongoing war in that country. “Nigerians must not be allowed to die in Sudan because of negligence. Bluesky, created by Jack Dorsey, promises a future-thinking “social internet” that allows users more choices and frees people from platforms, according to its website. The app, however, is still in development and only available to access through an invite code. Dorsey began working on Bluesky as a side project in 2019 with funding from Twitter, and it was first rolled out to iOS users in late February. Many users have said Bluesky’s current beta version is similar to a pared-down copy of Twitter, according to Tech Crunch.
