Fire Incident Will Not Affect Our Operations –EFCC

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has assured the public that Friday, May 5 fire incident at the Enugu Zonal Command of the Commission will not affect its operations.  The Secretary to the Commission, Dr. George Ekpungu gave the assurance on Sunday, May 7, 2023 during an inspection visit to the Command. Speaking with journalists after a tour of the facilities affected by the fire incident, Ekpungu expressed relief that the inferno did not affect critical components of the work of the Commission, noting that the digiitisation process initiated by the Abdulrsheed Bawa leadership of the Commission had ensured that all the Commission’s processes are fully digitilised with back-up at the central server in Abuja. Thursday’s incident was  said to have been triggered by a surge in the public power source. EFCC arrests 14 internet fraud suspects in Port Harcourt

  The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC ) has arrested 14 suspected internet fraudsters at Rumuekini axis of Port Harcourt  The EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement yesterday that they were arrested on Friday during a sting operation in Port Harcourt. “The suspects are Okoro Ansalem, Gift Mylius, John Lucky, Sadiq Shaibu, Sadiq Fahid, Benjamin Nnaji, Bestman Daniel, Golden Emmanuel, Dike Collins, David Nnaji, Oscar Mathew, Ofe Goodness Okoro Gift and Isaac Abraham Jombo. “They were arrested with three cars, laptop computers and other mobile and electronic devices. “They will be charged to Court as soon as the investigation is concluded,” he said.

U-17 AFCON: Six countries qualify for quarter-finals [Full list]

  A total of six countries have qualified for the quarter-final stage of the ongoing Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Algeria. Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets on Saturday night became the latest team to qualify for the quarter-finals. Nigeria defeated their South African counterparts 3-2 in a very entertaining clash at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui in Constantine on Saturday. Three goals from Charles Agada, Light Eke and Abubakar Abdullahi gave Nigeria the victory over South Africa. Vicky Mkhawana and Siyabonga Mabena did score for South Africa against Nigeria. However, the six countries that have made it to the last-8 in the competition so far are Nigeria, Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, Mali and Congo. Burkina Faso will later today take on Cameroon in the group stage. The quarter-final stage will commence on Wednesday.

   Popular American rapper, Aubrey Drake Graham, AKA Drake has claimed he may be Nigerian following the outcome of a recent ancestry test by his family. Drake, an American music star, is estimated to have a net worth of $250 million and reportedly receives $70 million yearly, as returns. Sharing his Dad’s ancestry results on social media, Drake revealed he is 30% Nigerian. He made the disclosure on Sunday in a post on his Instagram page. He wrote, “This is my dad’s results, does this mean I’m a Naija man finally?.” Drake is not the first foreign superstar to claim Nigerian roots. FG confirms planned inauguration of 650,000 bpd Dangote Refinery

As experts express optimism about meeting local demand  THE Federal government, yesterday, confirmed the planned inauguration of the 650,000 barrels per day, bpd Dangote Refinery on 22 May 2023. The company had indicated that the $19 billion plant will be inaugurated before President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office. However, in his tweet, Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, who confirmed the development, stated: “Efforts by the Federal Government to make Nigeria self-sufficient in local refining of crude oil to save the scarce foreign exchange used in the importation of petroleum products have received a boost as the 650,000 barrels per day Dangote Refinery, the world’s largest single-train refinery, is set for inauguration on May 22nd, 2023, by President Muhammadu Buhari.” A source close to the plant said the company was putting the finishing touches for the inauguration, adding operations will be built up in phases.
