65 people arrested over deadly cult clash in Uyo – Police The clash has continued despite the deployment of police to the area. Sixty-five suspects have so far been arrested over a clash between two rival cult groups in Uyo that has left at least  four people dead , the police in  Akwa Ibom State  have said. Some reports suggested that the number of people killed was much more than the figure given by the police. The clash, which reportedly began on Monday, concentrated within communities along Nwaniba Road, a major road that leads to a five-star hotel,  Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort , in Uyo, and the permanent campus of the University of Uyo. Communities around Nwaniba in Uyo are notorious for cult-related killings and violence. Businesses were forced to close shops, while some residents fled their homes on Monday evening because of the shootout between the rival gangs. El-Rufai’s son mocks Falz for doing surgery abroad

  Bashir, son of Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, has mocked rapper and activist Falz for flying abroad for surgery. AJEBOTV reported that Falz recently underwent knee surgery in the UK. Reacting via his Twitter handle on Thursday, Bashir taunted Falz for not having the surgery in any Nigerian hospital, especially the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. He mocked the singer, saying it was disappointing for a “bona fide human rights activist” to have his surgery abroad. Quoting a tweet about Falz’s recent surgery, Bashir wrote: “UK? He didn’t go to LASUTH as a bona-fide human rights activist? “Disappointing.”

  LAGOS—MEMBERS of the Mainland Independent Group, MIG, a socio-political pressure group, based in Lagos State, have assured Nigerians that the President-elect, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, will surely be inaugurated as the next president of Nigeria on May 29, 2023. Speaking on behalf of the MIG, during a prayer session for the president-elect, organised by the group, Ibrahim Megida lampooned those clamouring for interim government, describing them as clowns who deserve to be pitied. Megida, a Lagos-based APC chieftain, who co-ordinates the group, also dismissed moves to stop him at the court, as an exercise in futility. Official of petroleum regulatory commission abducted in Akwa Ibom Abduction for ransom has been on the increase in several Nigerian cities. An official of the  Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission  at Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Stanley Okwekwe, has reportedly been abducted. A witness told the  News Agency of Nigeria  (NAN) on Tuesday that the victim was abducted by four men at the front of his residence in Eket at about 9:00 p.m. on Sunday. The abductors have reportedly established contact with Mr Okwekwe’s wife. The victim’s wife is said to have reported the incident to the management of the regulatory commission on Monday. “The family has accepted to pay the sum of N10 million as ransom,” the witness said. Davido took to Twitter to react to the victory, revealing plans to stage a concert in the state later this year.   LONDON : The UK Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that it was too late for a group of Nigerian claimants to sue two Shell subsidiaries over a 2011 offshore oil spill they say had a devastating impact on the coastal area where they live. The case stems from the leakage of an estimated 40,000 barrels of crude oil on Dec. 20, 2011, during the loading of an oil tanker at Shell's Bonga oil field, 120 km off the coast of Nigeria's southern Niger Delta. A group of 27,800 individuals and 457 communities living in the delta have been trying to sue Shell, saying the resulting oil slick polluted their lands and waterways, damaging farming, fishing, drinking water, mangrove forests and religious shrines. But the Supreme Court upheld rulings by two lower courts that found they had brought their case after the expiry of a six-year legal deadline for taking action.
